MEET THE ROTHERMEL FAMILY

I never considered myself to have a green thumb growing up. I definitely loved being outside, but never new much about plants, so I was really surprised and delighted to fall into this world of flower farming, just following my own interests. Eric and I both have degrees in engineering. Eric works currently in the natural gas industry and after 6 years in the same field, I am taking a hiatus to focus on our family and flower farm. Everything we have learned about growing flowers has been self-taught, through trial and error, except for a jump start from the Floret Online Workshop. Growing and designing flowers is a break for my engineering brain to be creative, enjoy nature, and meet people in our community.

We started this business as a fun, “little” hobby in 2018 on Mohawk Road in South Fayette. Our first home had a hilly, untamed 1.5 acre plot, and we built giant raised beds into the hillside to make our garden - all flowers, no veggies grown here! After a few seasons of traversing the hillside, we quickly ran out of space and started to seek out a flat farmstead to raise our family and chase our three crazy dogs.

Eric and I had always admired the countryside of Hickory PA on our autumn drives, and when a charming old brick house and 10 relatively flat acres came on the market, it truly was an answered prayer for us. We have been calling Hickory home since 2021 and hope to for a very long time.

Our small business has made many pivots over the first few years with COVID and our changing lives, but currently we are primarily focused on providing seasonal bouquet subscriptions. Our season starts in April with our Tulip CSA and extends through October with Sunflower and Dahlia CSAs. We are currently building our peony crop to hopefully provide a Peony CSA in May or June too. Over the years, I have also grown as a designer and book a few weddings each year, using as many of our locally grown flowers as I can. Throughout the summer, we almost always can take a custom order and we offer individual bouquets between CSAs.

We specialize in cut flowers that you can’t find in the supermarket, and our goal is to create beauty from “nothing” and share the joy that flowers bring with our local community.

Every stem that we sell has been given the quality stamp of approval by us. We pride ourselves in our loyal customer base that keeps returning to buy our flowers season after season. Once you discover our flowers, you’re usually hooked after the first bouquet.

If you’d like to keep up to date with our farm and what flowers we have available, sign up for our email list or follow us on Facebook or Instagram (I am most active on Instagram!). Thanks for stopping by - I’m so glad you’re here!
